Artist: Ellen Sokoloff
Childhood memories of western trips along the historic
Route 66, America's "Mother Road", imprinted images of diners, motels,
gas stations and tourist attractions, which later became part of Americana
painter Ellen Sokoloff's artistic repertoire. Her paintings, in her
words, "represent a time in our country before franchises took over
and closed down many of the 'Mom and Pop' family-owned businesses. A
time when there was comfort food in friendly eating establishments and
homey motels beckoned the tourist to stay awhile. The highways welcomed
a slower pace, and folks could stop and rest in friendly conversation.
I hope to continue to capture this picture as it disappears under the
forceful swing of the wrecking ball."
Made of ceramic. Measures approx. 15cm high.
