Lori Musil
At first you see a painted horse. Look closer and you
see Hereford cows emerging from the shapes and muscles of the horse.
Look more closely and you will find a savvy sorrel cowpony hiding amidst
the herd of red and whites.
This artist loves a good joke and a pun. Once, while
working at a friend's roundup, she was told to catch her mount, a sorrel,
only to find this horse gifted at disguising himself in the herd of
cattle. She was able to track him down by watching for his pointed,
upright ears... a cow's ears stick out sideways. Thus Cowpony was born.
Once she had the idea, then came the challenge of fitting
the anatomy of the cattle to that of the horse... a nose to a bulging
muscle, the belly of a cow to that of the horse, the face of a cow wrapped
over the horse's face. With millions of brushstrokes she brought the
cattle to life, as well as the spirit that is Cowpony.
This beautiful print of the original, life-size Painted
Pony comes flat and unframed with a story card. Measures 28 x 35.5cm.
